Do you know this Supreme Court justice? You should.
Yesterday Samuel Alito was sworn in as the 110th justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Of course I am saddened. His record appears to be very conservative. Being that I love writing about sex, I am concerned that his vote may shift the court away from an expansive reading of human rights.
Throughout the senate hearings, democrats grilled Alito pretty harshly on abortion rights--which has no chance of being overturned with four liberals and a moderate Justice Kennedy sitting on the court. Instead, I am worried about new challenges to overturn other civil rights programs, like affirmative action.
But a few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to meet a Supreme Court justice. And he even voted for gay marriage.
